Omaha Hi Low: Fundamental Outline

Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha 8 or better) is frequently seen as one of the most complex but popular poker variations. It’s a game that, even more than regular Omaha poker, aims for play from all levels of players. This is the main reason why a once invisible game, has increased in acceptance so rapidly.

Omaha 8 or better starts just like a regular game of Omaha. 4 cards are handed out to every player. A round of betting follows in which gamblers can wager, check, or fold. 3 cards are handed out, this is referred to as the flop. One more sequence of betting ensues. After all the gamblers have either called or folded, an additional card is revealed on the turn. a further sequence of betting ensues at which point the river card is revealed. The gamblers will have to make the strongest high and low 5 card hands using the board and hole cards.

This is the point where some players get confused. Unlike Texas Hold ‘Em, in which the board can make up everyone’s hand, in Omaha hi lo the player must utilize precisely 3 cards on the board, and exactly two hole cards. Not a single card more, not a single card less. Unlike regular Omaha, there are two ways a pot can be won: the "higher hand" or the "lower hand."

A high hand is exactly how it sounds. It is the best hand out of everyone’s, whether that is a straight, flush, full house, etc. It’s the same concept in almost every poker game.

The low hand is more complicated, but really opens up the action. When determining a low hand, straights and flushes don’t count. A low hand is the worst hand that can be put together, with the worst being A-2-3-4-5. Because straights and flushes do not count, A-2-3-4-5 is the worst possible hand. The lower hand is any 5 card hand (unpaired) with an eight and smaller. The low hand takes half of the pot, as does the high hand. When there’s no lower hand available, the higher hand takes the whole pot.

It may seem complex initially, following a couple of rounds you will be agile enough to get the base subtleties of the game easily enough. Seeing as you have people betting for the low and betting for the high, and since so many cards are being used at once, Omaha High-Low provides an amazing assortment of wagering choices and seeing that you have many players shooting for the high, as well as many battling for the low. If you like a game with a considerable amount of outs and actions, it is not a waste of your time to participate in Omaha 8 or better.
